Help and advice on shopping for: Algae Scrapers

Free your tank from algae

While chemical treatments, filters and pumps are all fantastic, sometimes aquarists just have to roll up their sleeves and get cleaning the old fashioned way. Our range of algae scrapers, featuring top brands like Marina, JBL and Aqua One, let you scrape the algae from the walls of your aquarium without scratching the glass.

What are algae scrapers?

Algae scrapers are specially treated tools that are safe to use in any tank. They remove algae from glass without leaving any marks or scratches. The scrapers allow aquarists to remove algae so that it can then be drawn up into the filter pump to be removed and disposed of.

Why should I buy algae scrapers?

Algae scrapers are inexpensive and a great first salvo in the war with algae in your fish tank. While they do need to be coupled with a filter pump and some algae treatment to completely remove the invasive organisms, algae scrapers are ideal for ensuring that no algae are escaping treatment or filtration on the walls of your tank.

What are the main types of algae scrapers?

There aren’t really different types of scrapers but there are a few different designs, such as those on a swivel or with a wide ‘T’ shape. Swivel algae scrapers can be used to remove algae in difficult to reach corners. ‘T’ shaped algae scrapers can be used to remove algae from wide-open planes of glass.

What should I look for?

Once you’ve decided on the design of the algae scraper you need, there’s not much else to think about except the colour and style of the brush, which is a personal preference.
