Marine Advice: Marine Aquarium Lighting
- How much lighting do I need? For fish only systems normal T8 flourescent will be fine but for reef systems that need to support live rock ans corals stronger lighting preferably Halide with a mix of T5 is recommended. T5 lighting alone will only be able to support soft corals.
When choosing a Halide unit ideally you should have a mix of halide and actinic T5 togehter with a moonlight emitter, this will replicate the corals natural environment and provide a broader spectrum of light.
For every 24 inches of aquarium you will need one halide lamp.
Ten to fourteen hours of light should be provided per day.
