Those looking for an interesting water feature should buy a good quality garden pond, one commentator has suggested.
Investing in a good quality garden pond will reap rewards in the long run, it has been suggested.New Straights Times correspondent Desmond Ho stated a "substandard but cheap" water feature could find the product needs a lot of looking after.
He said it is important to weigh up needs before embarking on a project, suggesting how much outdoor entertaining could be on the agenda may be one aspect to consider.
Those that go for the cheapest garden pond "might be spending all …[their] time maintaining it instead of deriving pleasure from it", the columnist argued.
He added installing a water feature is "not rocket science" and suggested doing thorough research could be important.
"The key is reading up - from books, magazines or the internet, or you can seek advice from experts in the industry," Mr Ho concluded.
Meanwhile, Guardian columnist Allan Shepherd recently suggested creating an animal habitat - perhaps installing a koi pond - could be a great New Year's resolution.
