Public water feature gets the go-ahead in Salford

A water feature is part of a £4.8 million regeneration plan in Salford.

Residents and tourists in Manchester and Salford will soon be able to marvel at a new water feature.

The fountain is to form part of a regeneration project at the Greengate Embankment area, which is located on the border of both cities, close to Manchester city centre.

Around £4.8 million is being stumped up by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NRDA) for the project, which also includes a new office development, car park, hotel and urban homes.

Meanwhile, a new pedestrian bridge will link the development with nearby Victoria train station.

Chief executive of the NRDA Steven Broomhead said the project will help to boost local regeneration.

"This will contribute towards new job creation and economic growth, while enhancing the image and perception of Salford," he remarked.

Last month, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council revealed plans for creating a new water feature in Riversley Park.

Councillor John Waine told the Coventry Telegraph it will help to attract families to the park.
