Aquarium staff feed fish mushy peas

Aquarium staff feed fish mushy peas

Aquarium staff are feeding a giant fish mushy peas by hand.

A giant fish in Cheshire Oaks' Blue Planet Aquarium has a peculiar diet.

Bogie the pacu's favourite meal is mushy peas, which are hand-fed to him, the Ellesmere Port Pioneer reports.

These are "mixed up with krill and pellets" and put in the animal's personal pint glass, which encourages him to come to the surface, aquarist Becky Goodwin was quoted by the news source as saying.

"He just opens his mouth as wide as possible and we just pour the peas in," she continued.

The animal, which originates in South America and is occasionally described as a vegetarian piranha, is usually fed "broccoli, apple, nuts, strawberries and mango", which is made into a smoothie, Ms Goodwin explained.

A member of the public donated the creature to the facility after it outgrew its fish tank.

Another aquatic creature with strange eating habits is Gary the gourami at the London Sea Life Aquarium, who was reared on Kit-Kat chocolates.
