RSPB: Bird baths are easiest way to hydrate wildlife

The RSPB says bird baths are the easiest way to provide water to wildlife.
Bird baths are the simplest way of providing water to the birds in a garden. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) points out that the location of this piece of garden furniture will determine the animals that use it.
It should be put near to trees or bushes to provide shelter for startled birds, but must also have clear visibility, as the animals like to be able to see around them.
The organisation recommends trying different places around the garden before determining what the best spot to locate it is.
Over winter, many natural sources of water freeze and wildlife becomes more reliant on what is in domestic gardens.
People can prevent ice from forming in their bird bath by putting a light ball in the water, which will roll around in the wind and keep the liquid moving.
However, solar powered water features can also be a useful purchase, as many are resistant to both frost and UV lighting.
