Why do I need heron deterrents?

Why do I need heron deterrents?

As beautiful and majestic as your ponds fish might look to you, the simple fact is that to a hungry heron or playful stray cat they will always look so much more delicious.

Picture the scene. You’ve just paid out for the highest quality Japanese koi and fitted your large pond with everything from specialised koi water filters to the finest high nutrition fish food, when after turning your back for five minutes you get back to the pond just in time to see your expensive new fish carried off for a heron’s dinner.

To help protect your precious fish there are a number of ways to make sure that herons or domestic pets don’t end up stealing all of your fish.

One of the most traditional and popular methods is to use a Decoy Heron. Simply install this life sized decoy in plain sight around your pond and you can relax in the certainty that no hungry herons will be visiting your pond anytime soon.

Or for a no nonsense level of protection that you know will protect your pond the Swell Black Cover Nets are the perfect way to the protect your pond from invader, while not to mention preventing overzealous fish from jumping out too.

However if you really do care about the contents of your pond then perhaps you’d prefer to go a bit more high tech with the Velda Pond Guard. This cutting edge deterrent works against both herons and domestic pets such as cats.

Once installed the Velda Pond Guard includes a movement sensor that will detect the presence of a heron, or other animal and immediately emit a number of glaring flashes and a life-like impersonation of a bird of prey.

This technology plays on the animal’s natural fight or flight response and within seconds all that will be left of the imposingly large bird is a set of wings seen in the distance.
