Winter Pond Care
Your pond requires extra care and attention over the Winter. Here are tips for winter pond care:
- 1. Raise the bottom of the pond to stop the movement of the warmer water at the base of pool
- 2. Move the pump close to filter/waterfall outlet
- 3. Slow pumps down to 50% flow rate
- 4. Keep filter system running all year round or remove and store in a dry place
- 5. Cut dying plants back and trim old lilly leaves
- 6. Feed fish when temperature is above 5 degC (see Winter Feeding
- 7. Remove debris from base of pond with a pond vacuum
- 8. Install suitable ice preventer
- 9. Install heron protector
- 10. Cover the pond with nets to stop leaves dropping into pond and breaking down
