Help and advice on shopping for: Nano Tanks

These are tiny, fully functioning fish tanks to suit small spaces and modest budgets. They're compact, easy to set up and maintain, and make wonderful homes for tropical and temperate species, plus shrimp.

Are small fish tanks suitable for goldfish?

All goldfish varieties grow large, so we recommend larger coldwater aquariums to house goldfish long term. There are suitable coldwater species for a tank this size, however, like White Cloud Mountain Minnows and Zebra Danios, which could live happily in one long term.

Do I need a cabinet for a nano tank?

Cabinets and stands are available for some models, while the smallest tanks can simply be placed on a strong, level surface. Check the manufacturer's warranty and recommendations.

Do I need a heater for a nano aquarium?

If you want to keep tropical fish, you'll also need an aquarium heater. Some tanks come supplied with one, while others require it to be purchased separately. As a rule of thumb, allow one Watt of heating power per litre — so a 10 Watt heater for a 10 litre tank, or a 25 Watt heater for a 25 litre tank.

Which fish tank do I need for a Betta?

Single male Bettas, or Siamese Fighting Fish, can be kept on their own in a tank like this. You'll need a heater, and if you wish to keep live plants, a light too. Betta specific decor and food are also available separately.
