What is this Swell Air Driven Foam Filter 40?

This Swell Air Driven Foam Filter 40 is a simple, easy-to-install filter that's designed for use in small, temporary tanks and breeding set-ups up to 40L. It's surrounded with a foam sponge that provides both mechanical and biological filtration. This sponge, with its thousands of microscopic holes, can trap small debris, as well as provide a perfect home for a large colony of beneficial bacteria - the kind you need for a healthy aquarium.

How do I install this Swell Air Driven Foam Filter 40?

This Swell Air Driven Foam Filter 40 is quick and easy to install. Before you place it inside your aquarium, attach an airline to the narrow spout in the middle of the filter. Then, use the suction cup provided to attach the filter to an inside surface. After that, attach the other end of the airline to an air pump (airlines and air pumps are sold separately). If you've done all that correctly, you should start to see bubbles rising out of the larger spout at the top of the filter. The height of this spout can be easily adjusted.

With your filter now up and running, all that's left to worry about is keeping it clean. To do that, remove it from your aquarium and squeeze it in a bucket of tank water (or dechlorinated water). This will remove a lot of the trapped debris that may have built up in the sponge. Be careful not to clean your filter in regular tap water, the chlorine, chloramines and trace heavy metals may kill your colony of beneficial bacteria.
