These Swell Weighted Air Driven Foam Filters are simple, easy-to-install filters designed for small to medium-sized aquariums and breeding set-ups. They're surrounded with a foam sponge that provides both mechanical and biological filtration. This sponge, with its thousands of microscopic holes, can trap small debris, as well as provide a perfect home for a large colony of beneficial bacteria - the kind you need for a healthy aquarium.

How do I install these Swell Weighted Air Driven Foam Filters?

These Swell Weighted Air Driven Foam Filters are quick and easy to install. Before you place one inside your aquarium, attach an airline to the spout at the top of the filter. Use the weighted base to then sink the filter to the bottom of your aquarium. After that, attach the other end of the airline to an air pump (airlines and air pumps are sold separately). If you've done all that correctly, you should start to see bubbles rising out of the plastic lift tube at the top of the filter.

With your filter now up and running, all that's left to worry about is keeping it clean. To do that, remove it from your aquarium and squeeze it in a bucket of tank water (or dechlorinated water). This will remove a lot of the trapped debris that may have built up in the sponge. Be careful not to clean your filter in regular tap water, the chlorine, chloramines and traces of heavy metals may kill your colony of beneficial bacteria.

What are the differences between these Swell Weighted Air Driven Foam Filters?

Our range of Swell Weighted Air Driven Foam Filters are available in two different sizes - medium (70) or large (100). The medium-sized filters are suitable for aquariums up to 70L, while our large-sized filters are aimed at aquariums between 50-100L.

Our medium-sized filters are also available in a tall or short variant. Both are surrounded with the same, fine foam. Our large-sized filters, on the other hand, come in either a fine foam variant, or a coarse foam variant.

When it comes to foam, smaller pores increase the filters surface area and, in turn, its biological filtration capacity. In contrast, larger pores decrease the filters surface area, but they can trap bigger bits of debris and, in turn, improve mechanical filtration.
