What are Fancy Goldfish?

Fancy Goldfish are just regular goldfish that have been selectively bred for specific traits, like their vibrant colours, unique shapes, flowing fins, and striking patterns. There are many different types of Fancy Goldfish, but the most popular varieties are Orandas, Pearlscales, Ranchus, Ryukins, and Telescopes.

How big do Fancy Goldfish get?

If they’re given enough space and fed a healthy and nutritious diet, Fancy Goldfish can grow to sizes of around 30cm! This is quite large, for a pet fish, and means that they need to be kept in fish tanks that can hold at least 100L of water. The more Fancy Goldfish you want to keep, the larger your aquarium needs to be. As a rule of thumb, aim to keep one Fancy Goldfish per 100L of water.

How long do Fancy Goldfish live for?

While Fancy Goldfish don’t live for quite as long as regular Goldfish, they can still live for up to 15 years if given the proper care. It’s worth noting that, due to many generations of selective breeding, Fancy Goldfish commonly suffer from digestive problems.
