Help and advice on shopping for: Aquarium Backgrounds

The perfect finish to any tank

Often fish tanks are set against walls, meaning that the back surface of the tank blends into the rest of your room. This can be a little visually boring and make it difficult to spot fish, so many fishkeepers choose to create a background on the wall of their tank. Our range of backgrounds includes both poster backgrounds and structured backgrounds, so you can find the right look for your tank.

What are aquarium backgrounds?

Backgrounds are either waterproof posters or thick foam tiles that can be stuck to the back wall of your tank with adhesive. They create texture in the tank and make it much easier to see fish and aquatic plants.

Why should I buy aquarium backgrounds?

If you want to give your tank a professional look, an aquarium background will go a long way towards framing your aquascape. Aquarium backgrounds are also a breeze to install and require no technical skill whatsoever to get a great finish.

What are the main types of aquarium backgrounds?

There are two types of aquarium backgrounds; poster backgrounds and structured backgrounds. Structured backgrounds add a decorative feature to the back of the aquarium and should be secured with silicone or mounting gel. Poster backgrounds are great value for money and can transform your underwater sanctuary completely. At Swell, we offer reversible poster backgrounds which have a different image printed on each side. As the poster will be stuck onto the back of the tank rather than being submerged in water, this allows you to swap the image around as often as you like.

What should I look for?

When it comes to aquarium backgrounds it's really about personal preference, some backgrounds will complement particular types of fish or plants. It really depends whether you're trying to create a specific look or seeking something more eclectic.
