Help and advice on shopping for: Aquarium Heaters and Chillers

Keep your fish at their ideal temperature

Getting the right temperature in your fish tank is very important to keep your fish healthy. At Swell UK we offer a wide range of heating and cooling hardware to help you protect your aquatic pets from dangerous overheating or freezing. Our heaters and coolers range features products from top aquatic brands like Aqua One, D&D and Oase.

What are heaters and chillers?

Heaters and coolers work in similar ways to radiators, hot water bottles, fans and air conditioning units. Most methods of heating or cooling that work for us will also work for fish, with some water adaptation. The majority work by releasing heat into the water or taking water out of the tank and cooling it.

Why should I buy heaters and chillers?

Unlike humans and most animals, fish do not produce their own body heat and so they rely on the temperature of the water. Fish tank heaters are crucial when keeping a tropical aquarium to recreate the natural environment that tropical fish are used to. Coolers counteract the heat provided by lighting and even natural sunlight, which can result in fish overheating.

What are the main types of heaters and chillers?

We stock four types of heaters and coolers; chillers, fish tank heaters, heating controllers and thermometers. Coolers reduce the temperature of your water to protect your fish from overheating. Fish tank heaters increase the temperature of your water to the optimum level for fish, they are essential for tropical aquariums. Heating controllers monitor the heat within your aquarium and automatically activate your heater or cooler when needed. Thermometers measure the temperature of your water.

What should I look for?

Some heaters and coolers need to be plumbed into your tank, while others can be installed relatively easily. Ensure that you have everything you need and that you know how to install your heater or cooler before setting up your purchase to avoid damaging your tank or harming your fish.
