What are these Swell Internal Filters?

These Swell Internal Filters are compact, easy-to-install filters that are designed to be used in all kinds of aquariums. Their outer shells are made of high-quality ABS plastic, while their inner axle cores and casings are constructed from durable stainless steel. In short, they're built to last.

Inside the main body of these filters are coarse sponges that offer both mechanical and biological filtration. These sponges, with their thousands of microscopic holes, can trap small debris, as well as provide a perfect home for large colonies of beneficial bacteria - the kind you need for a healthy aquarium.

These Swell Internal Filters also come with a range of optional attachments so you can customise them to your needs. These attachments include a spray bar, an air pipe and several elbow joints. The spray bar and air pipe are both great for creating a lot of surface agitation, which promotes greater oxygen exchange and, in turn, healthier fish.

What are the differences between these Swell Internal Filters?

Our Swell Internal Filters are available in four different sizes, each one suitable for a different size of aquarium.

• Swell Internal Filter 200 - Capable of filtering small to medium-sized aquariums up to 60L.
• Swell Internal Filter 300 - Capable of filtering medium-sized aquariums up to 100L.
• Swell Internal Filter 800 - Capable of filtering medium to large-sized aquariums up to 150L.
• Swell Internal Filter 1000 - Capable of filtering large-sized aquariums up to 250L.

How do I set up and maintain these Swell Internal Filters?

These Swell Internal Filters are quick and easy to install, with only a small amount of assembly required. To set one up in either aeration mode or rain mode, check the instructions provided in the box. Once you've added your spray bar or air pipe, use the suction cups on the back of the filter to attach it to an inside surface beneath the water line.

You're then ready to turn on your filter. You may hear a gurgle before it starts pumping water. If this gurgling sound continues for more than a few seconds, and water isn't flowing, then give your filter a little shake underwater to try and kickstart the process.

With your filter up and running, all that's left to worry about is keeping it clean. These Swell Internal Filters are incredibly easy to clean - just unplug it from the mains, remove it from your aquarium and unclip the filter basket from the pump unit. Take out the sponge and squeeze it in a bucket of tank water (or dechlorinated water). This will remove a lot of the trapped debris that may have built up and started to clog the filter. Be careful not to clean your filter in regular tap water, the chlorine, chloramines and trace heavy metals may kill your colony of beneficial bacteria.

A filter is an essential piece of equipment for all aquariums. They do a lot of the heavy lifting in your underwater ecosystem, removing waste from your water column while also providing a home for a large colony of beneficial bacteria. This bacteria breaks down the waste picked up by the filter and, in doing so, keeps your water clean.

There are many different types of filters. Some, like these Swell Internal Filters, pack a punch and while they may be small, they can be used in medium to large-sized aquariums.
