How do I replace the sponges in my internal filter?

The replacement sponges in this pack are incredibly easy to install. First, turn off your internal filter and remove it from your aquarium. Then, detach the filter basket from the pump unit and remove your old sponge. Put in a new replacement sponge and reassemble your filter before placing it back inside your aquarium and turning it on.

It's worth noting that while your old sponge may have met the end of its life, it will still be covered in beneficial bacteria. Your replacement sponge, on the other hand, won't be. It's recommended that you keep this old sponge in your aquarium somewhere - preferably hidden away - so that you don't risk crashing your aquarium's established nitrogen cycle while a colony of beneficial bacteria establishes itself on your replacement sponge. Feel free to throw the old sponge away after a week or two.
