What is the Swell Electric Flame Scallop?
The Electric Flame Scallop is a very interesting mollusc, they have a hard white shell and many red tentacles that come out from its opening. They are herbivorous and are classed as filter feeders and they eat phytoplankton so you will need to provide plenty of phytoplankton in your aquarium or you can hand feed them directly and if you have more than one then each one needs to be fed individually. They are very difficult to keep even for experienced aquarists due to them needing specific conditions of a food rich system, stable salinity and a slow acclimation. While they are considered reef safe some invertebrate species could try and move into the scallop and try and make it their home which would be very detrimental to the scallop so care must be taken when adding this mollusc to your aquarium
