Why is potassium important for my marine aquarium?

Potassium is a macroelement that's often found in similar concentrations to calcium in seawater. Typically, potassium content should be 20mg/L lower than calcium content.

In a reef tank, potassium is responsible for helping corals to build their exoskeletons. It also helps them to transport nutrients around their bodies, keeping them healthy and enhancing their colours. This macroelement also provides corals' zooxanthellae and bacterial biofilms with the nutrition they need to thrive.

There are several types of corals, such as Seriatopora, Montipora, Acropora and Tubinaria Reniformis, that are great at indicating abnormal potassium levels in your reef tank.
