What is the Swell Mandarin Dragonet?

The Mandarin Dragonet is a small species of fish, only reaching a maximum size of around 8cm with the males being larger than the females. They feature a psychedelic pattern with wavy patterns of red, orange, blue and green and despite them being a carnivorous species they will make an excellent addition to your reef aquarium. It is best to only house one male per aquarium and make sure that the other species of fish that you have are not aggressive or very large as this will scare the Dragonet and will cause it to hide and release a toxin which while can be toxic, the main drawback is that it smells awful. They are known to be a very difficult species to keep due to their eating habits, in the wild they will eat on small crustaceans such as copepods and amphipods but when they are in an aquarium they are fairly picky eaters and will rarely eat any frozen food that you give them, instead they will need a constant supply of live copepods to survive. Before you get a Mandarin Dragonet you need to make sure that you have a tank that has been established for around one year and make sure that you have live rocks to allow them to hide
