Arabian Angelfish – Pomacanthus asfur
Overview:
The Arabian Angelfish is a spectacular marine angelfish, known for its deep blue body, bold yellow vertical band, and striking yellow tail. As juveniles, they display vivid blue-and-white stripes before maturing into their dramatic adult form, making them a standout centerpiece in large aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf, where they inhabit coral-rich reefs.
Feeding:
Omnivorous — requires a diet of marine angelfish preparations, sponge-based foods, spirulina, nori, mysis, and brine shrimp.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with large, robust marine fish such as tangs, Wrasses, and triggers. Avoid housing with small, timid fish or other large angelfish unless in a very spacious tank.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive — territorial, especially toward other angelfish and similar-shaped species.
Experience Level:
Recommended for experienced aquarists, as they require a large, stable, and mature marine environment.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 74–82°F (23–28°C)
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
-
Salinity: 1.020–1.025
-
Minimum Tank Size: 220+ gallons
A bold and majestic showpiece, the Arabian Angelfish is ideal for advanced marine hobbyists with large aquariums.
