Asagi Butterfly Japanese Koi Carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Overview:
The Asagi Butterfly Japanese Koi is a beautifully refined ornamental koi featuring a soft blue-grey body with a delicate reticulated scale pattern and vibrant red or orange accents along the belly and fins. Enhanced by long, flowing butterfly fins, it brings elegance, balance, and traditional beauty to any premium pond.

Origin:
Originating from Japan, the Asagi is one of the oldest and most respected koi varieties. Known for its calm coloration and classic patterning, the butterfly-fin variation adds graceful movement while preserving the breed’s traditional charm.

Feeding:
Omnivorous. Feed high-quality, color-enhancing koi pellets as a staple, supplemented with vegetables, shrimp, or seasonal treats. Feed 1–2 times daily during warmer months.

Tank / Pond Mates:
Peaceful and social. Best kept with other koi or calm, similarly sized pond fish such as goldfish.

Temperament / Aggression:
Very peaceful and non-aggressive, ideal for mixed koi ponds.

Experience Level:
Beginner to advanced. Hardy and adaptable, though maintaining excellent water quality and sufficient pond space is essential to preserve coloration and overall health.

• pH: 6.5–8.5

• Water Type: Freshwater

• Minimum Pond Size: 1,000+ gallons recommended
