Assorted Silver Dollars (Myleus / Metynnis)
Overview:
Assorted Silver Dollars are hardy, schooling fish known for their bright, round, “coin-like” shape and peaceful nature. Available in different patterns and varieties, they make active, eye-catching additions to medium-to-large aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the rivers and floodplains of South America, particularly the Amazon Basin.
Feeding:
Primarily herbivores that enjoy vegetable matter, spirulina flakes, algae wafers, blanched greens, and occasional frozen foods.
Tank Mates:
Best kept in groups of 5+ with peaceful, medium-to-large fish such as tetras, barbs, Severums, and catfish. Avoid small fish, which may be mistaken for food.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful, though may nip fins if underfed or kept in too-small groups.
Experience Level:
Great choice for beginner to intermediate aquarists — hardy and adaptable when kept in groups.
