Overview

This Assorted Pleco selection includes a variety of popular sucker-mouth catfish species, prized for their algae-grazing ability, unique patterns, and hardy nature. Plecos are excellent additions to large freshwater aquariums, helping maintain clean surfaces while adding character and interest to the tank.

Origin

South America (Amazon, Orinoco, and surrounding river systems)

Feeding

• Omnivorous

• Algae wafers, sinking pellets, blanched vegetables (zucchini, cucumber, spinach)

• Occasional meaty foods such as shrimp pellets or frozen foods

• Driftwood is essential for many species, especially Common and Gibbiceps Plecos

Tank Mates

• Suitable with peaceful to semi-aggressive community and large cichlid species

• Avoid very small fish that may be outcompeted for food

Aggression

• Generally peaceful

• Can become territorial toward other bottom-dwelling fish, especially as they mature

Experience Level

Beginner to intermediate (tank size and adult growth should be considered)

Water Parameters

• Temperature: 22–28°C (72–82°F)

• pH: 6.0–7.5

• Hardness: Soft to moderately hard

Notes

• Adult size varies greatly by species (from small Clown Plecos to very large Common and Gibbiceps Plecos)

• Strong filtration and regular maintenance recommended due to waste production

• Excellent algae controllers and long-lived aquarium residents
