Banded Trochus Snail (Trochus histrio)

Overview

The Banded Trochus Snail is a hardy and efficient algae grazer, easily recognized by its attractive conical shell marked with dark spiral bands. Essential for any reef cleanup crew, this snail helps control nuisance algae on rocks, glass, and substrate while adding a touch of natural beauty to the tank.

Origin

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, Trochus histrio is commonly found on coral reefs and rocky shorelines, where it grazes on microalgae and biofilm.

Feeding

Primarily herbivorous, feeding on film algae, diatoms, and detritus. In tanks with low algae growth, supplement with dried seaweed or algae wafers.

Tank Mates

Completely reef-safe and peaceful. Ideal for community and reef aquariums with other snails, hermits, shrimp, and peaceful fish. Avoid predatory species that may target snails, such as certain Wrasses or puffers.

Aggression

Peaceful and non-aggressive. Plays a beneficial role as part of a cleanup crew.

Experience Level

Perfect for beginners and experienced aquarists alike. Adapts well to a variety of reef environments as long as stable water conditions and sufficient food sources are provided.
