Bella Goby (Valenciennea bella)
Overview:
The Bella Goby is a striking, sand-sifting marine goby with a slender body and elegant coloration. Known for its peaceful temperament and active burrowing behavior, it is both functional and visually appealing in sandy reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, typically inhabiting sandy or rubble substrates near coral reefs.
Feeding:
Omnivorous. Feeds on small invertebrates, detritus, and microfauna within the substrate. In aquariums, can be target-fed with finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, and high-quality sinking pellets. Requires a deep sandy substrate to allow natural burrowing and foraging.
Tank Mates:
Peaceful and reef-safe. Compatible with small, non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. Avoid housing with larger or aggressive tank mates.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive and shy; spends most of its time sifting sand or hiding in burrows.
Experience Level:
Intermediate. Requires a mature tank with deep sand beds, stable water parameters, and a secure environment for burrowing.
