Big Eye Shrimp (Metapenaeopsis lamellata)
Overview:
The Big Eye Shrimp is a small, peaceful marine shrimp with distinctive large eyes and subtle coloration. It is an active forager and adds natural movement and interest to sandy or rubble areas of the reef aquarium.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, typically found on sandy or muddy substrates near coral reefs.
Feeding:
Omnivorous. Feeds on detritus, microfauna, and leftover food. In captivity, accepts finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality prepared foods.
Tank Mates:
Peaceful and reef-safe. Compatible with small, non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. Avoid housing with aggressive species that may disturb it.
Aggression:
Completely peaceful and non-territorial.
Experience Level:
Intermediate. Requires a mature aquarium with sandy substrate, stable water parameters, and plenty of hiding or foraging areas.
