Black Mask Pike Piranha Serrasalmus Elongatus 10cm Overview: The Black Mask Pike Piranha, scientifically known as Serrasalmus Elongatus, is an awe-inspiring species revered for its striking appearance and predatory prowess. Displaying a sleek elongated body with a distinctive black mask-like pattern across its face, this species captivates aquarists with its remarkable presence. Origin: Native to the freshwater rivers and tributaries of South America, particularly found in regions of the Amazon basin, these piranhas thrive in warm, well-oxygenated waters abundant with hiding spots among aquatic vegetation and driftwood. Feeding: As voracious carnivores, Black Mask Pike Piranhas have a diet primarily composed of live or frozen meaty foods such as feeder fish, shrimp, and krill. They exhibit an insatiable appetite and should be fed appropriately sized meals to sustain their vitality. Tank Mates: Due to their territorial and aggressive nature, it's advisable to house Black Mask Pike Piranhas in species-specific tanks. Compatible tank mates are limited to other similarly sized, robust species that can hold their own in the presence of these assertive predators. Aggression: Recognized for their predatory instincts and territorial behavior, Black Mask Pike Piranhas are best kept individually or in small groups (with caution) in sufficiently large tanks to mitigate aggression. Their aggressive tendencies intensify during feeding times and territorial disputes. Experience Level: Owning and caring for Black Mask Pike Piranhas requires intermediate to advanced aquarist skills. Experience in maintaining large predatory fish and managing their aggressive tendencies is crucial for their well-being and successful tank management. Water Parameters: Maintaining optimal water conditions is vital for the health of these piranhas. They thrive in slightly acidic to neutral pH levels (6.0-7.0) and prefer temperatures between 75-82°F (24-28°C). Clean, well-filtered water with minimal ammonia and nitrate levels is imperative for their overall health and vitality.Above images for illustration purposes only.
