Black Velvet Angelfish – Chaetodontoplus melanosoma
Overview:
The Black Velvet Angelfish is a striking marine species with a dark velvety body, contrasting yellow-orange highlights on its fins, and a graceful swimming style. Its unique coloration and elegant appearance make it a standout addition to large saltwater aquariums.
Origin:
Found in the Western Pacific Ocean, particularly around Indonesia and the Philippines.
Feeding:
Omnivorous — thrives on a diet of sponge-based angelfish foods, spirulina, marine algae, mysis, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful to moderately aggressive fish such as tangs, Wrasses, and anthias. Avoid housing with aggressive species or other angelfish unless in a very large system.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful to semi-aggressive — may show territorial behavior toward similar-looking species.
Experience Level:
Recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists, requiring a stable, mature marine environment and varied diet.
