Blackwedged Butterfly Fish Chaetodon Falcula
Overview: The Blackwedged Butterfly Fish, also known as the Saddled Butterflyfish, is a stunning marine species known for its striking black, white, and yellow coloration and unique 'saddle' marking. Growing up to about 8 inches in length, this fish adds both beauty and intrigue to any marine aquarium.
Origin: Native to the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region, from the Maldives to Japan and the Great Barrier Reef, the Blackwedged Butterfly Fish thrives in coral-rich areas and clear lagoons.
Feeding: A varied diet is key for the Blackwedged Butterfly Fish. In the aquarium, they should be offered a mix of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood, along with high-quality marine flakes and pellets. Incorporating marine algae or spirulina can help mimic their natural diet.
Tank Mates: This species is generally peaceful but can be territorial with other butterflyfish. Suitable tank mates include small peaceful fish, such as clownfish, gobies, and damsels, along with invertebrates. Avoid keeping with large aggressive fish or others that might compete for food.
Aggression: The Blackwedged Butterfly Fish is mostly peaceful but may show aggression towards its own kind or similar looking species. It's best kept singly or in a mated pair in home aquariums.
Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced. Due to their specific dietary and environmental needs, they are best suited for hobbyists with some experience in marine aquarium keeping.
