Blue and White Wrasse (Anampses neoguinaicus)
Overview
The Blue and White Wrasse is a beautifully patterned and peaceful reef fish, known for its striking blue and white coloration and graceful swimming behavior. A rare and elegant species, it makes a stunning addition to mature reef aquariums, adding both color and constant activity.
Origin
Native to the Western Pacific, including Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and northern Australia, Anampses neoguinaicus inhabits coral reef slopes and sandy areas, where it hunts for small invertebrates among the rubble.
Feeding
An omnivore that thrives on frozen mysis and brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Provide live rock for natural foraging, and feed 2–3 times daily in small portions.
Tank Mates
Peaceful and reef-safe, best suited for community aquariums with non-aggressive species such as tangs, gobies, anthias, and fairy Wrasses. Avoid large or aggressive fish that may intimidate or outcompete it.
Aggression
Peaceful. Rarely aggressive, though males may show mild dominance behavior in pairs or small groups. Requires ample swimming space, rockwork, and a fine sand bed for burrowing.
Experience Level
Recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists. Sensitive during acclimation and requires a mature, stable aquarium with pristine water conditions and a sandy substrate.
