Blue Moon Danio (Devario xyrops)

Overview

The Blue Moon Danio is a small, active freshwater schooling fish, known for its sleek body and shimmering blue coloration that gives it a moonlit glow. Peaceful and hardy, it is an attractive addition to community aquariums with open swimming areas.

Origin

Native to Myanmar and parts of Southeast Asia, inhabiting fast-flowing streams, rivers, and shallow floodplain waters with dense vegetation and clear water.

Feeding

Omnivorous. Accepts high-quality flake foods, micro-pellets, frozen foods (bloodworms, daphnia, brine shrimp), and small live foods. A varied diet enhances color and overall health.

Tank Mates

Peaceful and ideal for community tanks. Compatible with other small, non-aggressive fish such as tetras, rasboras, guppies, and danios.

Aggression

Very low. Thrives in schools of 6 or more, exhibiting natural schooling behavior and minimizing stress.

Experience Level

Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and adaptable, suitable for both new and experienced aquarists.

Water Parameters

• Temperature: 72°F – 78°F (22°C – 26°C)

• pH: 6.5 – 7.5

• Hardness: 5 – 15 dGH

• Notes: Prefers a planted tank with moderate water flow and open swimming space. Schools should be kept together to display natural behavior.
