Blue Throat Trigger – Xanthichthys auromarginatus
Overview:
The Blue Throat Trigger is a striking and peaceful marine fish, known for its silvery body accented with vivid blue markings around the throat and yellow-edged fins. Its calm temperament and unique coloration make it a visually appealing addition to large reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found on coral reefs and drop-offs from East Africa to the central Pacific.
Feeding:
Omnivorous – thrives on a varied diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and small crustaceans, supplemented with high-quality marine pellets or flakes.
Tank Mates:
Ideal for peaceful to moderately semi-aggressive tank mates. Its calm nature makes it suitable for mixed-species reef aquariums with other non-aggressive fish.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful – less territorial than most triggerfish species, making it one of the more reef-compatible triggers.

Intermediate aquarists – requires a mature, stable aquarium with good water quality and ample swimming space.
