Bongo Shrimp (Phyllognathia ceratophthalma)
Overview:
The Bongo Shrimp is a small, striking reef shrimp distinguished by its vibrant orange and white banded pattern. It is a peaceful, nocturnal species that adds color and activity to reef aquariums, often staying hidden during the day and emerging to forage at night.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found on coral reefs and sandy or rubble substrates.
Feeding:
Omnivorous. Feeds on detritus, microfauna, and leftover food. In captivity, accepts finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality prepared foods.
Tank Mates:
Peaceful and reef-safe. Compatible with all small, non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. Avoid aggressive species that may disturb its hiding places.
Aggression:
Completely peaceful and shy; may retreat into crevices or under rocks when threatened.
Experience Level:
Intermediate. Requires a mature aquarium with stable water parameters, plenty of hiding spots, and nighttime activity allowance.
