Brachyplatystoma Tigrinum Zebra Sholvelnose Catfish 12cm Overview: Meet the striking Brachyplatystoma Tigrinum, also known as the Zebra Shovelnose Catfish. Its distinctive appearance, with bold zebra-like stripes, makes it a captivating addition to any aquarium. Origin: Hailing from the freshwater river systems of South America, particularly the Amazon Basin, this species thrives in the fast-flowing waters of its native habitat. Feeding: These omnivorous marvels eagerly consume various foods, showing a penchant for live or frozen fare like small fish, shrimp, and sinking pellets. Providing a diverse diet ensures their optimal health and vibrancy. Tank Mates: Best suited for larger aquariums, they coexist well with larger, non-aggressive species like cichlids, large tetras, and other robust catfish. Smaller tank mates might be viewed as potential meals due to their predatory nature. Aggression: While generally peaceful, their predatory instincts may surface if housed with smaller fish. They may also exhibit territorial behavior, particularly when mature or during breeding periods. Experience Level: Ideal for intermediate to experienced aquarists due to their size requirements and specific needs. Knowledge of water quality, tank maintenance, and suitable tankmates is essential. Water Parameters: Maintaining pristine water conditions is vital. Aim for temperatures between 72-80‚°F (22-27‚°C), pH levels around 6.5-7.5, and moderate water hardness to mimic their natural environment.
