Brittle Teardrop Starfish (Ophiomastix annulosa)
Overview:
The Brittle Teardrop Starfish is a visually striking brittle star with slender, banded arms and a distinct teardrop-shaped central disc. Nocturnal and highly active, it is an engaging scavenger that adds both movement and interest to marine aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found on coral reefs, rubble, and rocky substrates.
Feeding:
Omnivorous scavenger. Feeds on detritus, leftover food, and small invertebrates. Can be target-fed with finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, or sinking pellets.
Tank Mates:
Generally reef-safe. Avoid very small fish or shrimp if underfed, and predatory tank mates that could harm the starfish.
Aggression:
Peaceful when well-fed but opportunistic in its scavenging.
Experience Level:
Intermediate. Requires a mature aquarium with plenty of live rock or hiding places and stable water conditions.

-
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)
-
