Overview

The Burmese Spotted Snakehead is a striking freshwater predator, prized for its bold spotted pattern, elongated body, and active hunting behaviour. Its vivid markings and dynamic presence make it a captivating centerpiece for large aquariums.

Origin

Native to Myanmar (Burma) and surrounding regions, inhabiting rivers, streams, and floodplains with dense vegetation and slow-moving waters.

Feeding

Carnivorous and voracious. Accepts live foods (small fish, shrimp, worms), frozen foods (bloodworms, krill), and high-protein pellets. Regular, varied feeding is necessary to maintain health and vibrant coloration.

Tank Mates

Best kept alone or with very large, robust species. Avoid small fish or invertebrates—they are likely to be preyed upon. Requires ample swimming space and hiding areas.

Aggression

Highly territorial and predatory. Can be aggressive toward conspecifics and smaller tank mates. Large, structured aquariums are essential for multiple individuals.

Experience Level

Advanced. Requires large, secure aquariums with tight lids, strong filtration, and stable water parameters. Not suitable for beginners.

• Hardness: 5 – 15 dGH

• Notes: Provide driftwood, caves, and plants for shelter while leaving open swimming areas.
