Bush Soft Coral Asparagus (Capnella sp.)
Overview:
The Asparagus Bush Soft Coral is a hardy and fast-growing leather coral with feathery, bush-like branches resembling tiny asparagus shoots. Its elegant, swaying motion adds natural movement and texture to reef aquariums, making it a popular choice for hobbyists seeking a resilient and visually appealing soft coral.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found encrusting rock and rubble in shallow reef zones with moderate water flow.
Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae. While it does not require direct feeding, occasional supplementation with phytoplankton or liquid coral foods can encourage growth and enhance polyp extension.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with peaceful fish and invertebrates. Should be spaced away from aggressive corals to avoid potential chemical competition.
Aggression:
Low. Does not sting neighboring corals, though it may release mild allelopathic compounds if crowded.
Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Very hardy, adaptable, and fast-growing, making it ideal for aquarists of all experience levels. Prefers moderate lighting, moderate water flow, and stable water parameters.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
-
Salinity: 1.023–1.025
