Overview

Chagoi Butterfly Classic Koi Carp are highly prized ornamental koi known for their long, flowing butterfly fins and smooth, earthy coloration ranging from bronze to olive-brown. Famous for their friendly nature and fast growth, Chagoi are often considered the “gentle giants” of koi ponds.

Origin

Japan – selectively bred for ornamental ponds

Feeding

• Omnivorous: readily accepts high-quality koi pellets, flakes, and occasional fresh vegetables

• Known for strong appetites and fast growth

• Feed 1–2 times daily in moderation

Tank/Pond Requirements

• Best suited for outdoor ponds or very large aquariums

• Minimum pond volume: 1,000 liters (larger preferred due to growth potential)

• Requires strong filtration and good water circulation

Aggression

• Very peaceful and social

• Often acts as a “confidence fish,” encouraging other koi to feed

Experience Level

Beginner to Intermediate – hardy and adaptable, excellent for both new and experienced koi keepers
