Clove Coral Polyp (Clavularia sp.)
Overview:
The Clove Coral Polyp is a soft coral known for its elegant, flower-like polyps that gently sway in the current. Each stalk is topped with star-shaped tentacles, creating a delicate garden effect that adds natural movement and beauty to reef aquariums.
Origin:
Found throughout the Indo-Pacific, commonly encrusting live rock and rubble in shallow reef zones.
Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic, gaining energy from symbiotic zooxanthellae. Supplemental feedings of phytoplankton, marine snow, or other coral foods will support faster growth and stronger coloration.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with peaceful fish and invertebrates. Best kept away from aggressive corals that may sting its delicate polyps.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive. Moderate spread compared to Pachyclavularia (Green Star Polyps), making it easier to control in mixed reef tanks.
Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and adaptable, suitable for most reef aquariums. Prefers moderate lighting, moderate water flow, and stable water chemistry.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
-
Salinity: 1.023–1.025
-
dKH: 8–12
