Clove Star Coral Polyp (Clavularia sp.)
Overview:
The Clove Star Coral Polyp is a soft coral with elegant, flower-like polyps that open during the day to display beautiful star-shaped tentacles. Its gentle pulsing and natural sway in the current bring movement and subtle beauty to reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found encrusting rocks and rubble in shallow reef areas.
Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic, deriving energy from symbiotic zooxanthellae. Benefits from supplemental feeding of phytoplankton, marine snow, and other liquid coral foods for faster growth and enhanced coloration.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with peaceful fish and invertebrates. Avoid aggressive corals that may sting or outcompete it.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive. Spreads gradually but is less invasive than Green Star Polyps, making it easier to manage in reef aquariums.
Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and adaptable, well-suited to established reef tanks. Thrives under moderate lighting, moderate water flow, and stable water conditions.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
-
Salinity: 1.023–1.025
-
