Clown Grouper – Pogonoperca punctata

Overview:
The Clown Grouper is a striking marine predator, recognized by its deep reddish-brown body adorned with pale, irregular blotches and spots that resemble clown-like patterns. Its bold coloration and predatory presence make it a captivating centerpiece in large marine aquariums.

Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, typically found around coral reefs and rocky areas from East Africa to the central Pacific.

Feeding:
Carnivorous – requires a diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, fish, and other protein-rich marine preparations. A varied diet maintains health and vibrant coloration.

Tank Mates:
Best housed with large, robust fish. Small fish and ornamental invertebrates may be eaten.

Aggression:
Predatory and territorial – needs ample space and plenty of hiding spots for comfort and security.

Experience Level:
Advanced aquarists – suited for experienced keepers of large predatory marine fish, with a mature, stable aquarium.

• Salinity: 1.020–1.025
