Common Filefish – Cantherhines sp.

Overview:
The Common Filefish is a graceful and adaptable marine species, featuring a slender, laterally compressed body with muted tones and subtle patterns. Known for its peaceful temperament and interesting swimming behavior, it makes a great addition to reef and marine community tanks.

Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, typically found around coral reefs, lagoons, and rocky coastal areas.

Feeding:
Omnivorous – feeds on algae, small invertebrates, and prepared marine foods. In captivity, offer a diet of spirulina, marine algae, mysis shrimp, and high-quality pellets.

Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful reef fish. Avoid aggressive species that may harass or outcompete the Common Filefish.

Aggression:
Generally peaceful, though may nibble on soft corals or small invertebrates in reef setups.

Experience Level:
Intermediate – ideal for aquarists with experience maintaining stable marine aquariums and proper feeding routines.

Water Parameters:

• Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C)

• pH: 8.1–8.4

• Salinity: 1.020–1.025

• Minimum Tank Size: 55+ gallons
