Cortez Angelfish – Pomacanthus zonipectus
Overview:
The Cortez Angelfish is a bold and colorful species, with juveniles displaying vibrant blue and white stripes that mature into adults with olive, yellow, and electric blue accents. Hardy and striking, it makes an impressive centerpiece in large saltwater aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Eastern Pacific Ocean, particularly the Sea of Cortez, Gulf of California, and Central American coasts.
Feeding:
Omnivorous — requires a varied diet of marine angelfish formulas, sponge-based foods, algae, spirulina, mysis, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with large, robust marine fish such as tangs, Wrasses, and groupers. Avoid housing with small, timid fish or other large angelfish unless in a very spacious tank.
Aggression:
Semi-aggressive — can be territorial, especially as it matures.
Experience Level:
Best suited for advanced aquarists, requiring a large, mature marine system and a varied diet.
