Cross Hatch Trigger – Xanthichthys mento
Overview:
The Cross Hatch Trigger is a striking and peaceful marine fish, featuring a silvery body adorned with distinctive crosshatch markings and bright yellow-edged fins. Its calm temperament and unique pattern make it an attractive addition to large reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found along coral reefs and drop-offs from East Africa to the central Pacific.
Feeding:
Omnivorous – thrives on a varied diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and small crustaceans, supplemented with high-quality marine pellets or flakes.
Tank Mates:
Ideal for peaceful to moderately semi-aggressive tank mates. Its calm nature makes it suitable for mixed-species reef aquariums.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful – much less territorial than most triggerfish species, making it a reef-compatible option for larger aquariums.
Experience Level:
Intermediate aquarists – requires a mature, stable aquarium with good water quality and plenty of swimming space.
