Dancing Shrimp (Rhynchocinetes durbanensis)

Overview:
The Dancing Shrimp is a small, active, and colorful reef shrimp known for its rhythmic “dancing” movements and striking red and white banded patterns. It is a lively addition to reef aquariums, providing both visual interest and cleaning behavior.

Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found on coral reefs and rocky substrates.

Feeding:
Omnivorous. Feeds on detritus, leftover food, and small microorganisms. In captivity, accepts finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality prepared foods.

Tank Mates:
Peaceful and reef-safe. Compatible with all reef fish and invertebrates. Avoid large, aggressive tank mates that may harass or eat it.

Aggression:
Non-aggressive and shy; may retreat into crevices when threatened.

Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and adaptable, suitable for established reef tanks with stable water parameters and plenty of hiding spots.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)

  • pH: 8.1–8.4

  • Salinity: 1.023–1.025

  • dKH: 8–12
