Overview

The Denis Healey Leaf Fish, also known as the Ambon Scorpionfish, is a rare and fascinating bottom-dwelling predator prized for its elaborate, frilly fins and leaf-like camouflage. With its distinctive appearance and stealthy hunting style, this species is a true showpiece for experienced marine aquarists seeking something extraordinary.

Origin

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, including Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and northern Australia, Pteroidichthys amboinensis inhabits sandy and rubble bottoms near coral reefs, where it blends perfectly into its surroundings.

Feeding

A carnivorous ambush predator that feeds on small fish and crustaceans. It usually requires live foods such as small shrimp initially but can be trained to accept frozen meaty foods like silversides, krill, or mysis once acclimated. Feed once daily.

Tank Mates

Best kept with peaceful tank mates too large to be eaten, such as tangs, angelfish, and large Wrasses. Avoid small fish and crustaceans, as well as aggressive or overly active species that may disturb it.

Aggression

Generally peaceful, spending most of its time motionless and camouflaged on the substrate. It poses no threat to non-prey species but will consume anything small enough to fit in its mouth.

Experience Level

Recommended for advanced aquarists. This species requires expert feeding care, stable water quality, and a quiet environment to thrive.
