Distichodus Affinis Lefini 5cm Overview: The Distichodus affinis Lefini, commonly known as the Lefini or Congo Distichodus, is a striking fish known for its vibrant coloration and elongated body. With hues of iridescent blues, greens, and yellows, it adds a captivating allure to any aquarium. Origin: Native to the rivers and freshwater systems of Central Africa, particularly the Congo Basin, these fish thrive in slow-moving waters rich in vegetation. Feeding: They are omnivorous, enjoying a varied diet of live and frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and quality pellets. Incorporating plant matter like spirulina flakes can help balance their diet. Tank Mates: Peaceful by nature, the Lefini tends to get along well with other non-aggressive species. Suitable tank mates include similarly sized peaceful community fish like larger tetras, barbs, catfish, and other non-nippy species. Aggression: Although generally peaceful, they can display territorial behavior, especially during breeding or when space is limited. Providing ample hiding spots and space helps minimize conflicts. Experience Level: This species is best suited for aquarists with intermediate experience. While not overly difficult to maintain, they require a keen eye for water quality and tank conditions. Water Parameters: Maintaining stable water conditions is crucial. Aim for a pH range between 6.5 to 7.5, water temperature around 75-82°F (24-28°C), and moderate hardness levels.
