Eye Spot Goby (Signigobius biocellatus)
Overview:
The Eye Spot Goby is a peaceful, burrow-dwelling goby with striking eye-like markings on its body. Known for its shy behavior and sand-sifting habits, it adds subtle activity and charm to sandy reef aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, typically found on sandy and rubble substrates near coral reefs.
Feeding:
Omnivorous. Feeds on small invertebrates, detritus, and microfauna within the substrate. In captivity, accepts finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality sinking pellets. Requires a deep sandy substrate for natural burrowing and foraging.
Tank Mates:
Peaceful and reef-safe. Compatible with other small, non-aggressive fish and invertebrates. Avoid larger or aggressive tank mates.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive and shy; may retreat into burrows or sand when disturbed.
Experience Level:
Intermediate. Needs a mature tank with deep sand beds, stable water parameters, and secure hiding spots.
