Fasciatus Butterfly Fish – Chaetodon fasciatus
Overview:
The Fasciatus Butterfly Fish, also called the Red Sea Raccoon Butterfly, is a striking species with bold vertical black bands and bright yellow coloration. Its vibrant appearance makes it a standout choice for large marine aquariums.
Origin:
Found throughout the Red Sea and Western Indian Ocean.
Feeding:
Omnivorous — feed a varied diet of frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and marine-based flakes or pellets. Some specimens may nip at corals and invertebrates.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful to semi-aggressive community fish. Not recommended for reef tanks with delicate corals or sessile invertebrates.
Aggression:
Generally peaceful, though may show territorial behavior toward other butterflyfish.
Experience Level:
Best suited for intermediate aquarists, due to its size and dietary needs.
