Finger Soft Coral Cauliflower (Cladiella sp.)
Overview:
The Cauliflower Finger Soft Coral is a hardy and attractive leather coral, named for its short, thick, cauliflower-like branches covered in small polyps. Its bushy, clustered growth form makes it an eye-catching centerpiece while also providing natural shelter for reef fish and invertebrates. Often showing cream, tan, or pale green hues, it brings a natural reef look to aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, typically found in shallow reef flats and slopes with moderate currents.
Feeding:
Primarily photosynthetic through symbiotic zooxanthellae. Can benefit from supplemental feedings of phytoplankton, marine snow, or other coral foods, though it does not require direct feeding.
Tank Mates:
Reef-safe and compatible with peaceful fish and invertebrates. Should be given space from other corals, as it may release chemicals that inhibit their growth.
Aggression:
Moderate. Does not sting, but like many leather corals, it can engage in chemical competition (allelopathy). Activated carbon and proper flow help manage this.
Experience Level:
Beginner to intermediate. Hardy and adaptable, making it a good choice for aquarists of all skill levels. Prefers moderate lighting, moderate to strong water flow, and stable water chemistry.
Water Parameters:
-
Temperature: 72–78°F (22–25.5°C)
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
-
Salinity: 1.023–1.025
-
